Whether you knew Natasha Cassick (Hubbell) well or not, you should know she was passionate about helping others and ending cancer. Once she was diagnosed with Melanoma, much of her focus was on awareness and supporting those affected. Please join us in raising funds for critical cancer related charities in WNY. 12+ players will take to the ice, to skate a 3-hour hockey shift, as part of a marathon hockey game to fight cancer in Natasha's name. Thank you to all the players, referees, volunteers, 11 Day Power Play leadership and every person who supported the Frozen40 in our world record. The team finished more than 252 hours of hockey and raised more than $2.1 million to fight cancer!
The 11 Day Power Play, Inc. was co-founded by Mike and Amy Lesakowski in 2016, eight years after Amy was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer at 35 years old. As the parents of three small children, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center made sure Amy’s treatment was aggressive from the start. Including immunotherapy fresh off clinical trials and an infusion still in a clinical trial, her treatment resulted in a successful outcome. In 2013, Mike’s mother was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. Her form of cancer did not have clinical trials available, and she succumbed to her disease in 2016. This inspired Mike to want to give back, in a big way, to the organization that saved his young wife’s life. On June 22, 2017, 40 men took to the ice at HarborCenter in Buffalo, NY in an attempt to set the world record for the longest continuous hockey game. Through July 3, 2017, the 40 men lived onsite, playing continuously in four-hour shifts, all while raising over $1 million for research programs at Roswell Park.
From 2018-2020, the format moved to a "Community Shift" allowing thousands of players to play 3 & 4 hour shifts while raising millions for cancer research. Since 2017, the 11 Day Power Play has raised more than $5.2 Million for Roswell Park Cancer Research Center, Camp Good Days, Make a Wish and the Oshei Children's Hospital.
In November 2021, 40 players will again come together to attempt to break the world record and raise more than $1 Million for cancer research and the other important causes. Click the link below to learn more about the event.
